When I found Amanda Brewer Hick and it confirmed that I was on the right path for tracing the Bennett family, it had taken me to Nicholas Great Grandparents.
Amanda was born in 1852 in St Wenn, Cornwall and was baptised on 8th August. Sadly her mother Nancy Brewer died the year Amanda was born – possibly in childbirth. Nancy Brewer was only aged 32 having been born in 1820 . I have traced Nancy’s family back to William Brewer born in 1691 and who married Mary Clemens but I am not intending to write about these side branches of the family tree. The Brewers always lived in St Wenn. This William Brewer was the 7 Greats Grandfather of Nicholas.
Nancy’s father was Richard Hick 1815-1891. Richard Hick’s parents were Thomas Hick and Jane Grosse who married in 1811. Thomas was a widower, having married his first wife, Mary Withell in 1794 in Padstow. Richard was a farm labourer.
Unfortunately I have been unable to trace the Hick family back any further.
Amanda had a brother called Thomas Brewer Hick 1847-1891 who I believe married and emigrated to America. I believe he died in Connecticut having married Polly Agnes Philips and fathering four daughters.
