Leslie Godwin Holliday and Hilda May Kerven
Leslie Godwin Holliday married Hilda May Kerven on 24th February 1917 in St Mary, Acton. Hilda was born on 7th May 1890 in Shepherds Bush. Their banns of marriage were read on 28th January and the 4th & 11th February.
They had Daphne Kerven Holliday on March 21st 1920.
In the 1911 census, Leslie is aged 17, single, and an insurance clerk living with his father, sister Mabel and a cousin at 1 Baronsmead, Barnes.
Leslie left the country rapidly when Daphne was aged 21 months. I have heard from her cousin, Deirdre, that he worked in the city and was going to be arrested for fraud or embezzlement and with help from Deirdre’s father -Tommy Rider- he left immediately on the ship Ruapehu from Liverpool on 23 December 1921 bound for Wellington, New Zealand. I have found a record showing that he was in the HAC entering it in December 1917 and was 5 foot 6 inches tall. He applied for his war medals when he was in Christchurch, New Zealand. He had been awarded the UK Silver War Badge and he had a pension.
I have no photos or further information on Leslie except that in 1911 he was living at 1 Baronsmead Road. The Kervens and the Hollidays lived very close to each other and I believe that is how Leslie and Hilda met.
Hilda May Kerven

Hilda May remarried Frederick C White in 1929 at St Martins London. I cannot be sure when she died but it is before 1942. . After Hilda died Frederick married Rhona M Clarke in 1943
